Shoe boxes and desk drawers......

A friend ask me the other day if our home was getting back to normal. I had to stop and think for a minute, I replied, do things ever get back to normal after losing a parent. She knew where I was coming from as she had lost a family member a few years back. You never get back to normal but you learn to go on and live life in a different normal way.
As many of you know there are tons of paper work. But along with all the paper work you run across something tucked away in a box that makes you laugh out loud. Sister-in-law Barb and I found a poem that Tommy had written about her when she was a little girl. Such sweet words written about his first born. We also found one Tommy wrote in his ledger book about working at the American Can. There are still shoe boxes and desk drawers to explore, we are eager to find things make make us smile.....

by 3's.......

We've all heard the old wise tale that says, "death comes in three's." As a child I can remember hearing Mom talking about the tale with her friends. Having been in the floral business for 20 years you can almost figure out when funeral work will be bountiful by counting by three's.
Death came in three's at Jubilee Flowers, within the past ten days Heather, Kenna and I have lost loved ones. Heather and I lost our father-in-law and Kenna lost her Daddy this morning. We've had our 3's, death needs to move on.....

Snow storm......

Seems folks are getting ready for a big snow storm. Last report I heard was 9 to 12 inches. Some have said it's going to be like the Blizzard of "78. I remember that blizzard and it's really going to have to snow big time to compare. In '78 it shut down everything for three days. It was declared a state of emergency and no one but emergency vehicles were allowed on the road. There were a lot of babies born that November, Sarah was one of them!!

Thomas and I prepared for the blowing winds and zero temperatures. The chickens and ducks are sure to stay warm. Wind blinds and heat lamps are in place, and plenty of corn for our fury friends.
We have ample supply of bread, milk, eggs and snack food. I made a huge pot of potato soup for the next few days. We're ready for what ever ole man winter sends our way.

Your list.....

Today is the first day of 2014 and what are you going to change from all the things you learned from in 2013. I've been reading things on Facebook and friends blogs and most of them are wanting to work smarter not harder at things. I find that amusing cause I say that all the time at the flower shop. Some folks are making list of things they want to accomplish or experience. They listed writing in a journal, staying away from drama, become a better cook and staying organized. You might wonder if I have a list, well, I do but it's a small one. I want to continue at staying organized around the house. Less clutter is easier to clean. Some say if you haven't used it or wore it for six months get rid of it. Like my friend listed I want to rid myself of drama. Drama adds stress and stress isn't healthy. I will steer clear of those who live for drama. I want to have more family back yard cook-outs. These are a few on my short list. Hoping you're able to check your list off throughout the year.
