Mowing and Pigs......

Saturday was a beautiful spring day. After work I stopped by to visit with Mom and Daddy and I couldn't help but take this picture...
Daddy said it was time for mowing season to begin. Tuesday we're going shopping, we're both getting new mowers. But mine won't be a push mower!!!

Later in the evening thinking it was a good time for a short nap my bestie Linda calls. Derrick's pig's  have arrived at the farm. Seems they all think I need to check them out.......
Linda got the straw down from the loft and while she was preparing their feed I spread the straw out for their bedding. Later before I headed home we went to check on them and they had rooted the straw and was settled for the night. Feed, water and a warm bed don't take much to make a pig happy...

Normal Day......

I don't post everyday....some days are just normal and there's nothing exciting to write about. It's just an average day.
I read quite a few bogs. They range from floral farms, floral designers to childhood friends. From gardeners, photographers and chicken farmers just to name few. Some of them are just plain funny, interesting and yes even boring. They write no matter what the day has been.
Me on the other hand--I don't write every day cause some days I guess you could say that it's just plain boring.....life is normal most days. Thomas is good, our girls are happy and healthy. Mom and Daddy are doing great. I love my job, my puppies are fat and sassy. I'm bless with the best friends a girls could ask for. I don't share everything to everybody. I've read where folks have sent so many cards to folks or they did this good deed or they did this for someone. I once had a older lady who passed away more then 40 years ago tell me not to brag on the good you do for other people. To keep it between you, them and the Lord. She said, are you telling folks so they will think your an awesome person or looking for a reward--do good things for folks out of the goodness of your heart, not to receive praise.
You all would be bored if I wrote every day that my puppies did this funny thing, or Thomas stubbed his toe, or Sarah and Sandra went for a bike ride. Is my life boring?? no not really, I have an awesome life filled with lots of laughter, love and wonderful funny people who make me laugh out loud every day. Most day's I set down and wonder what to write about and I think back over the days events and to me the day was perfect. To some my perfect day might seem boring to them, that's when I think, well, I'll just keep this day to myself and hope my followers had a perfect day too.....

On call......

I remember those days, you never knew when the phone was going to ring. It was the weekend or holiday most times. When your phone rang a certain tone you knew that no matter what you were doing you had to drop everything for your customers.
Today, the phone ran Heather's ring tone and I knew it was time to go to work. Heather is on spring break thousands of miles away and it's my responsibility to tend to the shop. Sure enough she had received a call from a family needing casket flowers. I called the family and we made arrangements. So back to the shop I headed. As I was driving I recalled all those times I had to work late, go in on Sunday after church to design funeral flowers. There was one Thanksgiving I put my turkey in the oven and headed to the shop. The family wanted to have Grandma's visitation on Thanksgiving Day when everyone was home.  They spent the day with family sharing memories of Grandma.
Being on call is not a bad thing. We don't get a email from God telling us that someones going to pass away on a certain day. We just kinda go with the flow and work it into our routine. That's part of your job description of being a florist. Always there for your customer at the drop of a hat. Listening to them tell you all about their loved one and hearing the funny stories. You form a bond with them and when they tear up so do you. As you listen to them tell family memories you began to let your mind wonder as to the design of the spray....today it was an older lady who had enjoyed 95 years of loving her family. As I finished the spray I stepped back and gave it a look.......it was just as I pictured her in my mind.

New sign.....

As Thomas and I was driving around about a month ago we spotted a new sign down by the railroad tracks. I was so excited he had to stop so I could walk over and take a photo........

Perfect Days......

We love perfect days. The sun is shinning the weather is somewhat warm. Walking the dogs, holding hands and checking out all that is new.
Spring is just a few days away and we know that old man winter can't stay forever.
Discussing our plans for re-doing the patio. New grill, fire pit and furniture.
We're blessed to have each other.....there's no place like home.

Laugh again.....

We all miss our friends and loved ones who have left us and went on to heaven.  Some days you laugh and remember those funny times and some days you miss them so much it brings a tear to your eye. We are told that they are just gone for a little while and one day we'll see them again. Today is one of those days when I can't wait to hear them laugh again........

Jubilee Christmas Dinner......

Finally, after almost three months we found the time to have our Christmas dinner. From November 10 to February 15 there's not much free time. We decided that next Christmas we need to have our dinner the first of November. We had a great time, lots of laughs opening presents with just a few weeks till Spring. We even sang a chorus of, "We Wish You A Merry Christmas". The chef greeted us as we came in the door with our Christmas presents.
Dinner was delicious. All of us work hard at choosing foods that are healthy and we always encourage each other. We bring in salads, fruits and fresh vegetables.

..............lets just say that eating healthy was not on the dessert menu..........

Extra long walk.....

What a gorgeous almost spring day. Thomas and I enjoyed an extra long walk with Bristol and Lily this afternoon. We found Darrell and Darrell relaxing in the pond......

The crocus was in full  bloom........

Peonies were popping their noses through.......

The dogwood wrapped from the winter winds was starting to show buds......

A few more warm days the forsythia will have beautiful tiny yellow flowers...........

The hens are getting back into the swing of things, they know spring is just around the corner, as you can see we gathered seven eggs today.......

Lily and Bristol also enjoyed the long walk. Miss Lily is camera shy. I have lots of pictures of her and she will never pose for me. She might look for a minute but just as your ready to click she turns away. I tell her she is beautiful, but she just gives me that, "I don't like my picture taken look."
Weather lady says temperatures in the 50's this week. Maybe the snow and cold winter days are done for this season. At least we hope so!!

Tulips.......

Ah...the beauty of spring flowers. Thomas and I enjoyed Sunday afternoon at the Louisville Home & Garden Show. We were looking for patio ideals. We found a few and I took pictures for reference this spring so we will remember how it was done. The best part of the show were the last isles. That's where you find the gardens. We rounded one corner and bam......tulips everywhere. Lush waterfalls with evergreens and tulips. Constructed patios with tulips. Did I say, tulips were everywhere.

Setting down this evening, looking at the pictures and making notes I glance out the window and I see this......

Snow, snow and more snow. Hurry up spring,we need to get started on my patio and my tulips are poking their little nose's through the soil just waiting for a warm spring day to show off.

Girls day out.....

Wonderful girls day out with my bestie Linda, her Mom Janet and sister-in-law Rachelle. Spent most of the day shopping in Nashville. We all found a few things we couldn't live without. Enjoyed lunch at the Hobnob Corner Restaurant. We've all shopped in Nashville but never while it was snowing. There were more folks than we thought shopping and enjoying the snowy weather.
Afterwards Linda and I drove around checking out the Myers farmland. The pastures, hay fields and the fence rows. Linda talked alot about her Daddy. From putting up fences and running the cows from one field to another. Driving tractors loaded down with hay, digging ponds and all the things a young girl would learn from her Daddy living on a farm. What a great day.......
