Decoration Day.....

In 1868, General John A. Logan commander-in-chief of the Grand Army of the Republic officially proclaimed May 30 as Decoration Day "for the purpose of strewing with flowers or otherwise decorating the graves of comrades who died in the defense of their country during the late rebellion".
The first national commemoration took place at Arlington on May 30, 1868 with General Ulysses S. Grant in attendance along with General James Garfield as the feature speaker.
Decoration Day was eventually renamed, Memorial Day.

We not only remember those who gave the ultimate sacrifice for their country, but we remember our loved ones-parents, grandparents, children, brothers, sisters, aunts, uncles, best friends and neighbors. May we always cherish their memories.

Drinking from the water hose.......

I've been looking for a water hose to keep at the front of the house. Didn't want a huge hose laying around. Things have to be tidy. Standing at the check out in Walgreen's today I spotted a water hose that doesn't take up a lot of room. Even though my Knock Out Roses will hide it I still didn't want this huge hose laying around.
It's the hose that grows to 50 feet, lightweight, stores easy and it's tangle resistant. Sounds like what I've been looking for.
I've seen these on TV but never paid much attention to them. The secret to the accordion design is that it automatically expands when the water is turned on. Then with a flip of a switch and drained it goes back to it's original size. For only $19.99 I figured it's worth a try.
Reading the instructions I notice some important safety information that informs me not to drink for this hose. The water in the hose my become contaminated and cause serious health effects.....really!!!

Do you know how many water hose's I've drank from when I was a kid. I'm sure you're thinking the same thing. That's what you did when you were thirsty. Instead of running inside you just grabbed the hose, let the water run for a minute and drink. I guess we're all contaminated. My girl's drank from the hose many times when they were little. Think of all the things we did as a kid that has now been studied to make us sick or worse kill us.

Anticipation....

Been watching for a week now for my Peony's to pop. This morning I looked again and I knew it would be just any time. Look what I found when I came home.....
I was so excited. I'm sure folks think I'm a little bit off my rocker to be excited about a flower. But I don't care, I love flowers. I work every day with them and my gardens are over flowing with beautiful flowers. My favorite flower is the Peony. The flower bud is much like a supper ball before it opens and the fragrance is sweeter than honey. I would love to cut them and enjoy them inside, but I will admire them from my gardens.
My only wish is that they bloom all summer long. I guess some things are meant to enjoy just for a bit.

Sneaking Kisses.......

Today was a beautiful day in more ways than one.....as I was mowing I seen Mom walking out see what Daddy was up to. As she approached, Daddy reached out his arms, he pulled her in close and gave her a sweet kiss. It brought a tear to my eye. After 66 years of marriage they are still young at heart, sharing kisses and sweet hugs.
I stopped the mower and headed to visit with them. I told them I seen them making out, they both just laughed. Mom said, you're never to old to get some sugar from your sweetie.
As I began to mow again I knew that I wanted to remember this day forever. To see my parents still showing affection to each other. Even though they are both in their 80's their love for one another continues to grow each day.

Happy Mom's Day......

Happy Mom's Day to my Momma......not for sure where Mom got her supernatural, magical mom-power but I'm glad she had it.
Mom taught me so much and even though I didn't understand why she said, "NO" so much. But when I became a Mom I understood. Mom always told me to turn the other cheek and take the high road. To always say, thank you and to smile.
Mom helped me through so many obstacles and knew what I was thinking way before I ever thought it.
Mom you're amazing and me, well....I'm beyond grateful.

Love you, Momma

Sunday rain........

Listening to the rain on the roof is so relaxing. After a whirlwind week of over 200 Prom corsages today was a great day to snuggle up and catch up on some lost sleep. Knowing that the coming week will be just as busy with Mother's Day, I welcomed the rain.
I did find time late in the afternoon to make some Chocolate Carmel Cookies.
Rain has a calming effect and life can sometimes have you burning the candle at both ends. Sunday rain is good for the soul.

Sarah"s Baby.......

The big "D"....that's what we call him. Diesel would wear Sarah's sunglasses all day if you let him. He knows that he looks cool. We have laughed at him till we couldn't laugh any more. He actually pushes Sarah's hand when she takes them off and will continue pushing until she puts them on him. Wednesday evening he wore them for almost an hour and not one time did he lose them.
Big Diesel, one cool dude.....
